This is a post about mini van sales? Why?
Because I have always hated mini vans. Mini vans are yet another cultural relic of the baby boom. First the long haired hippie types drove VW Micro buses. Then they grew up and said to themselves, "How can I piss away a lot of gas and look stupid while I do it?"
They went and bought mini-vans.
As noted in this AP story mini-vans:
DETROIT (AP) -- Asked recently how the U.S. minivan market has been faring, Nissan's Dominique Thormann had a concise answer.
"It collapsed," said Thormann, a senior vice president of Nissan North America.
That's because Gen-x'ers do not want to subject themselves, their families or their children to riding in these monstrosities. They are horrible on gas, suck to drive (if you have ever tried) and are just plain fugly.
Some people are still delusional about it prospects.
Still, Lindland is also bullish about minivans. Global Insight predicts U.S. minivan sales will settle in at around 650,000 through 2012, when they could jump back up to 700,000 as the market improves. She said demographics are working in the vehicles' favor, as Generation Y starts having families and Baby Boomers circle back to minivans to transport their grandchildren.
Of course. The baby boomers. Only they would think it was wise to buy a gas hog to haul around two kids once a quarter.
Good work guys. Maybe you can save Detroit.
On a side note. The AP seems to be going after bloggers (In this case the Druge Retort) who link to their news stories.
I have quoted from the A.P. before, I am sure I will quote from them again. This is called Fair Use. Some bloggers have stated that they won't link to the AP anymore, never one to go with the crowd, I suggest that if you have a blog you link to at least one AP story a day until the AP changes its mind.
